Part-Time Support Staff Bargaining Update December 20
The College Employer Council (CEC), representing the 24 Ontario Public Colleges, and CAAT-PTSS, representing part-time support staff, have been in negotiations since January 2024.
The two parties have met on more than 17 occasions over the course of the year to bargain a renewal collective agreement. This included in-depth discussions of the current issues and financial reality facing the College sector and productive dialogue on proposals.
On December 18, 2024, the parties continued to exchange proposals and responses to changes to the current Collective Agreement. The CEC’s offer includes breakthrough provisions on important matters such as paid sick days, job security, canceled shift pay for Regular Part-Time Employees, increased vacation pay, and wage increases.
The CAAT-PTSS bargaining team advised the CEC that it requires more time to review the last offer. While no dates have been set, CEC is hopeful the parties will reconvene in the new year.
At the same time, for the second time in a year, the CEC has requested that the parties attend non-binding mediation to help facilitate a renewal agreement. We are waiting or a response from CAAT-PTSS on this second request.
We remain hopeful that an agreement will be reached with the CAAT-PTSS bargaining team to provide stability for students, employees, and the greater College community.
