What are the issues? What has been offered?

💡Did you know?

The OPSEU Bargaining Team wants to control all contracting out. Appendix I of the Full-Time Support Collective Agreement already protects employees from losing a job caused by direct contracting out.

Here’s how it works:
If you have completed your probation, you cannot be released.
If the contracted company offers you similar terms and conditions, you can take the job or return to college in the first year

In the College Employer Council proposal, colleges have offered:
Extending the time to return to the college to 2 years
Providing subsidized upskilling and retraining to support career growth

This means job security and more opportunities for support staff.

🤝 Collaboration has always been at the heart of Ontario’s colleges.

The OPSEU Bargaining Team is demanding that any type of “support staff role” is only able to be performed by support staff.

This means that a dean would not be allowed to tell a student about:
❌ Financial aid opportunities
❌ Study techniques

All college workers must be able to collaborate and help students. This is not a threat to support staff job security.

Here’s how it works:
Support staff roles are protected in the Collective Agreement in Article 1 and Appendix B
There are remedies already available to prevent management from taking over support staff responsibilities
